I’ve been reminded recently that adaptability isn’t a nice to have. It’s essential.
Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned. We can have the structure, the preparation, the conversations, everything lined up nicely. Then reality moves differently. Life asks for something else.
In these moments, there’s always a choice.
Resist it and try to force things back into the shape you expected. Or accept what’s actually in front of you and adjust.
Acceptance isn’t giving up. It’s seeing clearly.
When you stop fighting the situation, you create the space to make better decisions. You can respond with intention instead of using energy trying to protect the original plan.
Clarity replaces friction. Movement replaces frustration.
The pivot then becomes a considered act, not a reactive one.
High-stakes work demands that level of presence. Whether it’s programmes, partnerships, or leadership in practice, the route will change. It always does. The work evolves. People evolve. Context shifts.
Staying committed to the vision while remaining flexible about the path is what keeps things moving forward.
The plan matters.
But the ability and willingness to shift when it counts matters more.
